Dictionaries-to-Prisoners Holiday Project

Dictionaries-to-Prisoners Holiday Project

Imprisoned Artists

– Artist’s Website –

In past years we have asked our supporters to send Holiday cards to prisoners who participate in our writing and arts programs. This year, as we did last year, instead of cards, we are sending dictionaries to prisoners since so many imprisoned men and women have requested them.

We are focusing on indigent prisoners who are not able to buy their own dictionary. To get as many dictionaries to indigent prisoners as possible, we are making bulk deliveries (with 25 dictionaries in each box) to education departments in prisons around the country. They will distribute them to indigent prisoners.

If you have a friend or loved one in prison, please let us know their prison and we will ship a box of dictionaries to the education department there. after we receive permission to do so.

We need your support to make this project work. Your tax-deductible donation of $115 will pay for a full box of 25 new dictionaries, including shipping costs.

If you can only afford to pay for a partial box, your smaller tax-deductible donation will help a great deal. We will let you know the prison to which your dictionaries are sent.

We are also looking for a few volunteers to contact the education departments of prisons to get clearance for the delivery of the dictionaries.

To make your donation for the dictionaries, please go to our website by clicking here and use the donate button you will find there.

Volunteers should contact staff@safestreetsarts.org. Our phone number is 202-393-1511. Thank you for your compassion and assistance during this time of year that is so difficult for imprisoned men and women.

Not going to be in Washington anytime soon? You can bring our art and excitement to your community. Just look around your region to see if there are businesses or organizations willing to accept our prison art on consignment. This is an effective way to educate the public about the talent and humanity of men and women in prison, 95% of whom will someday return as our neighbors. Please visit our website www.SafeStreetsArts.org to find out how our prison art consignment program works and whether your favorite organization or business can be part of it.

In addition to selling prison art in our retail outlets and offering the art to organizations and businesses around the world to sell on consignment, we provide the names and addresses of our imprisoned artists to anyone who wishes to use their artistic services. This is ideal for individuals, nonprofits and entrepreneurs
who have a need for art or graphics of any type, including wall decorations, logos, brochure and website illustrations, or custom-made portraits from photos.

Whatever you desire in the way of art, our artists can provide. Some will even work for free in order to get recognition and a thank you letter, which will be included in parole and clemency petitions (especially important to our lifer and death row artists). For further information, please write staff@SafeStreetsArts.org
