Nettie Brazeau Goings was born in 1856 at Pine Ridge Reservation. She is of mixed heritage, part Lakota, African American and French. Her father was frontiersman John Brazeau, a French Creole from New Orleans who was adopted by Chief Sitting Bull who later joined Crazy Horse to fight against the colonialists.

This mural is 8 feet by 8 feet and was painted in Santa Cruz, California, where it is currently on display on Cedar Street.
