Details
On Thursday, March 9th, there will be a Nonviolent Direct Action Training, facilitated by local veterans of nonviolent struggles: Janie Kesselman, Pamela Osgood, Xylem Larla Dey, and Sharon Delgado. The training will be held at Seaman’s Lodge in Nevada City from 6 – 9pm. There are a limited number of spaces available for this training, but we will put you on a waiting list for the next training if we reach full capacity.

There has been a resurgence of demonstrations and resistance actions around the country. Nonviolence trainings for direct action help ensure that these protests will be peaceful and effective. This basic introductory training will be interactive, with discussion and exercises that introduce the following topics:

• Philosophy of nonviolence/ nonviolent resistance
• Range of views on violence and nonviolence
• Agreeing on guidelines for specific group actions
• Diversity training
• Staying aware, focused, grounded
• Nonviolent communication/action when facing confrontation
• Brainstorm action scenarios / Tactics for various situations
• Role plays
• Jail and court solidarity
• Quick consensus decision-making
• The value of affinity groups, affinity group formation

After you contact us we will be in touch with you. We will ask attendees to show up around 5:45 for signing in, name tags, and snacks, so we can get started promptly at 6. We suggest that you put a donation into the basket of from $0 to $20, depending on what works for you, to cover expenses for this and other trainings. This training is being co-sponsored by the newly forming Nonviolent Direct Action Training Collective – Nevada County, and the Peace and Justice Center of Nevada County.

Our first training will prioritize those who are experienced in direct action and are willing to become trainers
themselves. Please let us know who you are! We have limited space, and will make a waiting list for those wanting to attend the next training. So honored to be able to provide this basic course to all!
