To: The Members of the United States Congress

We the People concur that slavery and involuntary servitude under any circumstance, even as a punishment for crime, is illegal, indefensible, morally repugnant and contrary to the values of justice, equality and fundamental fairness our society is supposed to be based upon.

We the People demand that Congress immediately move to amend Section 1 of the 13th Amendment to remove its ‘legal’ slavery provision, thus finally and completely abolishing slavery in Amerika.

Upon ratification of this amendment, Section 1 of the 13th Amendment should read: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

The language, “… except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted…”, shall be forever stricken from the U.S. Constitution.

We the People further demand the immediate repeal of all “Civil Death”- and social containment laws and ordinances which derive their power from the “legal” slavery provision of the 13th Amendment, and which do not afford Prisoners, x-offenders and their communities full human, political, economic and participatory rights in social life in Amerika.
