Poem: Steady As We Roll

Poem: Steady As We Roll

– Poet’s Website –

we took it

on the chin before

boxing on a catawampus

class-divided floor

over-crowded

with hired hammers

heat-treated

high n tight

again this friday night

we’ll fight

to even up the score

in them tainted halls

of justice

armor-plated ‘roids

who bust us

unfortunately

lucky we lose

though we survive

cuz we’re unwanted dead

or young n restless

dazed in our lives

that we wired up withstand

social callisthenic strain

as francois lalanne

of late

does jumpin’ jacks

inside the brain

we’re steady as we roll

steady as we roll

to divvy up our treasure

that mista big stuff stole

we’re steady as we roll

tattooed corn-rowed

dungaree’d

share the load

dereg’late gladiators

welcome home agitators

revved up

not for sale

conscientious

outta jail

but crawfish’d

hoe-handled

risin’ up for blessed truth

shouted down ridiculed

for bein’ nasty n uncouth

our youth been preach’d

‘tis better to give it up

in trade for saccharin lies

a genteel way of sayin’

you can all eat shit n die

right at home home

but deranged where deer

n antelope play

with cattle barons’ mange

forever problematical

wanna reborn rodeo

with latifundia to lasso

while deep fried-in-the wool radicals

on select fire sabbaticals

‘breviate foolish gold in banks

‘sphyxiate oligarchal think tanks

when dot com money dies

we’re battery-wise

n still ever-ready

rockin’ steady as we roll

to divvy up our treasure

that mista big stuff stole

steady as we roll

steady as we roll

steady steady as we roll

steady [2014]
