Puppets for the Peaceful Uprising Climate Trial

By Cori Redstone and David Solnit

The mock trial of Tim DeChristopher was staged in multiple locations in 2010-2012. The trial was performed at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival as well as Mountain Film.

Cori Redstone with the help and training of fellow artivist David Solnit created the puppets and painted and built the bodies with Peaceful Uprising Volunteers. The trial was written by members of Peaceful Uprising. The trial was a a creating of the trial that should have happened for Tim DeChristopher. Mr. DeChristopher was refused to use the defense of necessity to act upon climate change in the trial. Rather Federal Judge Benson rules that Mr. DeChristopher could not use his actual explanation for his actions in his defense.

Considering this denial of justice, Tim and the members of Peaceful Uprising decided to hold the trial that should happen calling climate scientist James Hansen, the people of the world facing a forced migration due to rapid climate change and future generations who will be irreversibly affected by global climate change.
