Rooftop Revolutionary Pick of the Week: The Untouchables

Erik Ravelo

Each week, Eleanor from Rooftop Revolutionaries chooses a work of art to share:

Hey Revolutionaries,

This week, I’m showing one incredibly controversial and intense piece – an installation by Erik Ravelo that as you can see, has and will stir up fiery emotions and commentary.

“Los Intocables,” or “The Untouchables.”

A double entendre that speaks to Ravelo’s own meaning that “The Right to Childhood should be UNTOUCHABLE.”
– But also to the fact that the adults in these images are untouchable by law or even social awareness and criticism.

The first image portrays child sexual abuse by the Catholic church
The second portrays the child sex trade in Thai tourism
The third image portrays child deaths and abuse in Syria
The fourth image portrays the black market organ trade, utilizing children’s organs
The fifth image portrays US gun deaths
The sixth image portrays child abuse via poisonous food, such as McDonalds.
