The Love of Hate

The Love of Hate

Shahin Shabanian

Once again, at a junction of history
We celebrate the love of hate, as a victory
A culture we cultivate
Promoting our value to be the hate

So besmirch others, you unloved few
Violence and hate are what you spew
Poverty grows, your eyes shut;
Lives in peril, you let them rot

Hunger you see, your face shifts;
Homeless you meet, you will drift;
Help if asked, you hold back;
Peace is offered, you will attack

You say often, why I should be
Concerned with the humanity,
Life is mine; mine is to live
Concern for others, I can’t conceive.

One day that I will pass you by
Homeless that I will see you lie
Under bridge, no home to board
I will honor my human accord

I will look at your raised hand
Help is from me you demand
Fallen, you have been nonetheless
No help offered is disgrace

I see that your face shows doubts
Thinking about the past thoughts
Your eyes ask me “why you care,
When I never bothered to share.”

Have you ever heard this adage?
Were one limb damaged, none can properly manage.
If you are revived,
Indifference and hate are denied
For, links we are in human chain
If one hurts, others with pain should remain

Your eyes tell me now you see
Care for others must be the key
On that crossroad of the fate
I see you empty of the hate.
