Tatiana Makovkin, Riley Marr and RAFTT (Radical Art For These Times)
This is one of 9 pieces depicting real scenes from the history of environmental direct action. This piece illustrates Tim DeChristopher in the process of disrupting a land auction that offered public land for oil and gas exploration. DeChristopher bid on a parcel of land and was sentenced to 2 yrs in prison for this nonviolent act of conscience.
Each piece is a small multi-media creation. The activist dolls were created using needle-felting. The purpose of this installation is to provide a history lesson about the environmental movement and to show examples of different forms of direct action from tree-sitting, to lockdowns, to banner-hangings, blockades and more. Each piece shows activists engaged in a disparate form of resistance in the hopes of inspiring young people and new activists by teaching about the potential tools in our direct action toolbox.
