Tim DeChristopher Disrupting Land Auction

Needle-felted Tim DeChristopher in the auction

Fiber art and mixed-media sculpture by RAFTT (Radical Art For These Times)

Twenty-Seven year old college student, Tim DeChristopher, put his liberty at stake in early 2009 when he disrupted the Bush administration’s last-minute move to auction off oil and gas exploitation rights on 130,000 acres of federal land in Utah. DeChristopher was arrested after he participated as Bidder No. 70 and bought 22,000 acres of land in an attempt to save the property from drilling.

This is one piece in a series that makes up a fiber-arts installation illustrating true stories of brave nonviolent direct actions in defense of planet Earth. People who take a stand against the destruction of the environment by puting their bodies in the way of corporate-government greed and corruption are the true heros of our time.
