Tribute to workers (poem)

Tribute to workers (poem)

By Rich Dustin

I’m a union activist, legislative council representative, part time unpaid organize and in good standing of SEIU1948. I believe.

An untitled poem written while organizing custodians last week……

watch the working world
watch the individual components
break them down
separate them beyond class
beyond caste
try not to order them into little piles
try not to slip them into a folder
look at their backs
how they hold their shoulders
how they rub their hands
the little pauses and groans and sighs
when they pick it up and wipe it down
and try not to wonder why they
can’t put it all into perfect words
