The Classes; do we choose what we take?

All students will move through the same curriculum. This will be a pre-determined, yet flexibly taught, series of classes exploring and connecting spoken word and music expression of our voices – only. These fun yet challenging classes are designed to reduce inhibitions and break down barriers as we promote socialization, interaction, cooperation and creative advancement in the process.

These sessions are based on experiencing a variety of vocal applications in a sequence of topics by our faculty staff. We’ll be encouraged to try new things that may place us outside our comfort zones – which is an awesome opportunity for creative growth in this safe and supportive environment of learning.

No need to ‘choose’ classes; we’re going to do it ALL!

Lodging and Accommodations

We have bunkhouse style cabins. In a cabin that normally sleeps 13 we house only 7 or less, so there should be plenty of room for all. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students and make new friends. Women will bunk together – and men will bunk together. Let us know if you have any specific lodging requests or needs. We will do our best to accommodate your inquires. Please remember to bring your own bedding including a pillow and either warm flannel sheets and blankets or the quick, comfortable solution of a sleeping bag.

Camp Sylvester is approximately 5,000 feet up in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains with the smell and feel of clean alpine air. We may have cold nights so feel free to use the heaters in the cabins for added warmth. The days might still be cool this time of year so pack warm clothing with choices of layers. Bring hats for warmth and shade when outside comfortable shoes and an extra pair of shoes for walking and/or hiking. If you’re a light sleeper, a set of earplugs would be a good thing to bring with you. We’ll try to have extra on hand should you forget.

Delicious & Nutritious Meals

We will, once again, be offering another outstanding menu of fine camp cuisine. Simple yet wholesome nutritious meals by the YaYa Dinettes plus one. We will have meat and vegetarian options, salads, soups, breads plus fresh fruits, yogurt, nuts, hot & cold cereals and juices.

If you have any severe food allergies, we’ll do our best to assist you in creative solutions to your needs. There will always be coffee, teas and plenty of life’s little treasure ~ water. You are welcome to bring special beverages, (ie. wine, beer or energy drinks).

What To Bring;

Bedding – sleeping bag or twin size sheets, blankets, pillow(s)
Clothing – layers for possibly cold nights and cool days, including warm and shade hats, gloves, wool socks, comfortable shoes for indoors and outdoor hiking etc,…
Flashlight, extra batteries, throat lozenges, toiletries, personal towel(s)

Bring an audio recording device to record the weekend.
If you have a “smart phone”, there’s an excellent recording device built into it – allowing you to later upload all your recorded classes, ensemble sessions, performances and jams to your computer back home.

There is cell reception if you’re a Verizon user. If you’re not a Verizon user, the staff will have Verizon phones if calls need to be made (important calls only, please).

There is no internet connection at Camp Sylvester. Not such a bad thing really, considering our short and important time together.

Pen and a note pad or notebook is also important for creative writing and note taking in general.

Acoustic string instruments, and light hand percussion for jamming are also welcome.

What If I Might Have To Cancel?

Your registration fee includes a nonrefundable $75.00 deposit. You may receive a full refund (minus the $75.00 deposit) until midnight, (pacific standard time), April 1st. After April 1st, we’re unable to grant refunds, as costs and fees to us are past deadline for adjustments. Thanks for your understanding.
