What happens when graffiti, an illegal art, becomes the strongest form of resistance in a country plagued by dictatorship, sloppy media, and an unfinished revolution? But, more importantly, what if this resistance art becomes the key tool for a message about women?

WOW Baladk is the first regional street art festival in the Middle East. 25 artists and graffiti painters gathered in Amman and worked together for a week, The theme of the WOW Baladak Street Art Festival is “Stories from Fear to Freedom”.

Every third year CKU hosts the Images Festival – the largest Danish festival of contemporary art and culture with a global perspective. 2013 WOW participated at the festival.

WOW – Women On Walls – is a graffiti initiative that was launched in the early spring of 2013 in Egypt. WOW uses graffiti to talk about women and women’s issues and rights, with the aim to contribute to the empowerment of the Arab woman. WOW also works to strengthen the female graffiti artists and their efforts to form a more visible female presence in the streets of Egypt and the Middle East.
