Prison Art Exhibit Better Than Ours

Prison Art Exhibit Better Than Ours

Safe Streets Arts Foundation

– Artist’s Website –

We don’t like to admit it but there’s a prison art exhibit you can go to that’s better than the ones we offer.

This is not to say that the prison art exhibits we offer across America–in art galleries, universities, churches, festivals and just about any other place where there is an opportunity to exhibit prison art–are not interesting and of high quality. Indeed, our 13 years of experience collecting and exhibiting prison art makes our art exhibits high traffic, major events for any organization that cares to sponsor them.

But we have to admit that our prison art exhibits take second place to the ones offered by Angola State Prison in Louisiana.

The difference between their exhibits and ours is that theirs are held inside a prison with the prison artists themselves in attendance. There is nothing quite the same as viewing prison art inside a prison and talking to the prison artists about their creations.

Read a just-published article about the Angola arts shows, including pictures and an interview with our own director Dennis Sobin about the importance of artistic creations in prison (where he spent many years creating his own musical art), by clicking here.

Not going to be in Washington anytime soon? You can bring our art and excitement to your community. Just look around your region to see if there are businesses or organizations willing to accept our prison art on consignment. This is an effective way to educate the public about the talent and humanity of men and women in prison, 95% of whom will someday return as our neighbors. Please visit our website www.SafeStreetsArts.org to find out how our prison art consignment program works and whether your favorite organization or business can be part of it.

In addition to selling prison art in our retail outlets and offering the art to organizations and businesses around the world to sell on consignment, we provide the names and addresses of our imprisoned artists to anyone who wishes to use their artistic services. This is ideal for individuals, nonprofits and entrepreneurs who have a need for art or graphics of any type, including wall decorations, logos, brochure and website illustrations, or custom-made portraits from photos.

Whatever you desire in the way of art, our artists can provide. Some will even work for free in order to get recognition and a thank you letter, which will be included in parole and clemency petitions (especially important to our lifer and death row artists). For further information, please write staff@SafeStreetsArts.org

The art on this page was created by imprisoned artists and is sold as low-cost special edition prints online or at our many prison art sales locations. Also, our Prison Art Consignment program is available to organizations and businesses across America. Please visit www.SafeStreetsArts.org
